In Touch News - November 2024
Banbury RUFC Centenary Season 1 of 7

1. In Touch News - November 2024

Welcome to November's edition of In Touch with up-to-date information on events at the Club during our Centenary season.

1. On the Pitch
The Bulls continue to perform well and following a tremendous 110-10 victory over Kenilworth on Saturday are ‘sitting’ third in Regional 1 Midlands. The Lions and Wanderers also continue to impress with the Lions actually surpassing the Bulls’ score on Saturday, beating local rivals Bicester 118-0! The Wanderers were unlucky to succumb to a narrow defeat to Chipping Norton II on Saturday, going down 14-10. Although they have won all seven of their league fixtures this season, the Lions find themselves in 2nd place in Counties 3 Tribute Berks Bucks & Oxon North, South West Division, due to the vagaries of the Bonus Point system. The Wanderers are also currently 2nd, in Counties 4 Tribute Berks, Bucks & Oxon North. The Colts recorded a fine 48-15 win over Beaconsfield at the weekend and continue to enjoy their season, as do all our Mini and Junior teams on busy Sunday mornings. The Belles continue to train hard and enthusiastically following a recent narrow defeat to Abingdon. Our Walking Rugby ‘hotsteppers’ enjoyed a competitive fixture against Witney and are looking forward to similar against Didcot and Leamington in the near future. Touch Rugby continues to thrive at the Club on Thursday evenings and is open to all members of the Club. Finally, it is a delight to report that our numbers involved in SEND rugby on Sunday afternoons continue to grow and it is a pleasure to witness the sheer enjoyment on the faces of the participants.

Many congratulations to all our playing fraternity, whatever section you are playing in. #OneClub

2. Club Shop & Merchandise
The Centenary Calendar is now on sale, running from September 2024 to December 2025, packed full of classic pictures, all the 1st XV match dates as well as club social events and Six Nations fixtures, so you won't miss a thing in this Centenary year. Order online or pop into the shop to purchase your own copy. Shop hours are posted weekly on the website and social media.

Pitchero - are you registered on our website? It means a lot to the club if you are, and if you want to buy anything from the website you must be signed up. We do appreciate that a lot of information goes out on social media. Is it too much, not enough, do we need to include other things not currently covered. We would love to hear your thoughts so if you have any comments, please feel free to email communications@banburyrufc.co.uk

Our Centenary Book is coming along nicely but we still need as much information as we can possibly get. We would love to hear from all Past Presidents, Officers of the Club, Captains and players, send us your recollections of your Presidential or playing years. We would be happy to sit down with you over a coffee (or something stronger) to get all your reminiscences down on paper. So, either send us some thoughts or email us and we will arrange a mutually acceptable time to sit and have a chat centenary@banburyrufc.co.uk

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The Club shop will be having some special Christmas Shopping afternoons and evenings, come and enjoy a mulled wine and mince pie on Thursday 14th November, Thursday 21st November & Thursday 5th December. Shop hours will be posted every Tuesday on social media and the website. For any other enquiries please email merchandiseshop@banburyrufc.co.uk

3. Pre-match Lunches
Our pre-match lunches continue to be as popular as ever. Last Saturday was a sell-out, as are the next two on 30th November and 14th December. If interested in a place in the New Year, the very clear advice is to book early!

Future lunch dates are shown below. Please reply to this email to book:

  • January 11th vs Syston
  • February 1st vs Stourbridge
  • March 1st vs Long Eaton
  • March 22nd vs Burton

4. Social Events
Our Halloween Spooktacular Party was a tremendous success with an excellent turnout, great weather and some ‘delightful’ surprises – ‘tricks’ and ‘treats’. Many thanks to Sarah, Fay and Alison for their organisational brilliance!

Our next social event is the Centenary Quiz on Friday 22nd November. We still have room for one or two more teams, but you will have to be quick…

Unfortunately, there has been very little interest in our planned Christmas Dinner & Dance so we are forced to cancel this event. We have to act early to avoid incurring any unnecessary costs for the Club so if you are genuinely intending to come to any of the events below, please let us know by emailing monty@banburyrufc.co.uk If there is insufficient interest, these events may have to suffer the same fate -

  • Christmas Singalong – Sunday 22nd December 2024
  • New Year’s Eve Family Party – Tuesday 31st December 2024
  • Burns Night – Friday 24th January 2025

5. Centenary
The Centenary Wall still has spaces that we need filled. Please consider marking your association with our great Club by securing a ‘tile’ in your name. Forms available at the Club or from monty@banburyrufc.co.uk

There are less than 50 places remaining for our Centenary Ball on 14th June 2025. Book via Monty or Trudy.

6. Membership
Subscriptions for 2024/25 are now overdue. Please renew via membership@banburyrufc.co.uk

Please also note that each membership this season comes with a special “Centenary pack”. We still have about 150 that need collecting from the Club. Your pack can be posted but the cost to you will be £3. If you have any questions, please email membership@banburyrufc.co.uk.

As ever, we would be delighted to receive your feedback on our efforts to keep in touch with the membership…
