So on Saturday 6th October the Banbury Under 8s rugby team was invited to take part in a tournament organised by Northampton Saints. This usually happens on the training pitches at Franklin's Gardens. This year however the invite came with a twist - we were off to Twickenham. Yep that's right, the home of English Rugby and we were going on the main pitch.
Not sure who was more excited about this, the coaches or the parents. The players just seemed to take it all the their stride.
So we all got up nice and early, bright eyed and bushy tailed ready for our journey.
When we arrived the weather wasn't too bad, just a little overcast and we were secretly hoping that the weather men had got the report of heavy rain all day very wrong. However we were just a little too optimistic and as soon as we stepped out in to the stadium, the clouds released every single drop of water that they had on us all!!
Regardless of the weather it didn't dampen the spirits of anyone least of all the players, they were raring to go every time each of the teams were called upon. We took with us 21 players in total, some of them having only joined the club this season.
All the players did brilliantly considering the weather and it certainly was a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of them.
After the tournament was finished we had a couple of hours spare before watching the Saints vs Tigers game, which was in aid of Rob Horne. Tigers won the game but the atmosphere and whole experience of being at Twickenham was just fantastic.
