A very distinct change in the weather from last weeks wet Towcester festival saw 22 players turn out for training this week, With it being half term week and gosford cancelling we was expecting far lower numbers.
With a brief warm up we got into two games of bulldog in which the coaches " started trying" after 5mins of the second game (although most of the kids knew they had us on the ropes).then onto Union jacks which involves all the kids running at each other at speed luckily there were no injuries, and it had the desired effect of making them more aware of there surroundings and quick evasive manoeuvres, incorporating clapping into the equation added more fun although James's claim to do 15 claps whilst the ball was in the air fell a little short of his claim. We have also since realised that having a tongue hanging out whilst doing this game adds to the concentration levels. lol.
Back to basics then with a simple passing drill to get further away with every 5 non dropped catches. The best were getting around 7 metres between them including our only 2 girls Tasha and Kate who put the boys to shame. there were promises of £50 and one promise of an Xbox One if they could reach the halfway line, luckily they were well short.
Onto some matches where keeping a defensive line was the aim of the day and it must of been working as more tags were being taken overall than in previous weeks.
To finish we had dodge ball where the parents got to "roll" the ball at a running pack of kids and they had to not get hit, we lost track of who had or hadn't got hit and we definitely need some TV replays to check some of the claims, not to be outdone the parents had a chance to run the gauntlet of "adorable, caring, sweet children" we had a lot of volunteers and as the pictures show these balls were not necessarily "rolled".
To finish the coaches decided that "team of the week" were Ralph,Harry,Kate,Ben and Hugh, who also won the Captains Trophy for the week.and also had probably the worst rendition of happy birthday I've ever heard lol.
