Well........ to say that was a wet one would be a massive understatement.
Looking at the weather reports on Saturday we knew there would be some wet weather on our visit to the annual Towcester Festival, but when the car parks are getting flooded on the way in we knew we were in trouble!
Luckily one of the coaches brought us two gazebo's to shelter under, but it wasn't long before the sag of water on the roof brought it's own challenges. Rufus and one of the dads came off very wet indeed (of course nobody laughed at them at all) but most notable was Ralph who must of had a bucket full on him whilst unaware it was coming, but believe it or not he didn't spill a drop of the cup of tea in his hand. Great hands Ralph.
We had an original squad of 24 players down to play over three teams and was expecting a large number to drop out but only two couldn't make it due to illness so we were very impressed with the determination of parents and players.
We got quickly into our games and started brightly. Leaving the organising of starting positions down to a few of the more experienced players and the responsibility seemed to work wonders (saved the coaches shouting defensive line and attacking V) over and over again anyway.
After a short wait we had our second game and things started to deteriorate, and as great as our kids were, the cold and wet had started to take it's toll. Concentration levels lacked, understandably the kids shouts of the tags are too slippy and I can't feel my fingers told the story perfectly.
With a 30 minute wait until the final game the organisers quite rightly in our opinion called an early finish to proceedings to protect the kids (and parents). This in turn gave us the opportunity of one final picture, a team victory slide and packing up of some very wet kit.
We were all overwhelmed by the enjoyment the kids had in truly terrible conditions and they were a credit to their parents, the coaches and the club.
Here's hoping for just as much enjoyment in the coming weeks but maybe not so much rain.
