With much improved weather this week we had a lot more smiley faces on arrival, that was soon lost after a quick chat about discipline and a couple of laps of our pitch but nothing a much asked for game of bulldog couldn't fix.
We implemented a few new games and drills and once we all got the hang of them (Coaches included!) they turned out to be enjoyable whilst also working on some core skills without the children even knowing.
With time creeping up on us we had a 5 minute sit down and explained some of the basic rules for this year as we have had a lot of new starters that may not be 100% on the rules. We then went straight into a mini tournament with a slight rule change, that if any team had all 6 players score a try they would win the game immediately. This was to encourage all children to use teamwork to win the game and although no teams got the magic 6, one did get to 5 which is a pleasing result.
The end of the session was to go to WAR..Tug of war in fact. Still staying in their teams we had a semi final, 3rd place play off and final of which the final results were.
YELLOWS 1ST
REDS 2ND
ORANGES 3RD
BLUES 4TH
I think most of children would agree this was great fun albeit the couple of injuries that it produced.
Big well done to this week's players of the week. Alfie, Caleb, Natasha, Joseph, Fergus and team captain Harris. It was only the first morning at trying rugby for Fergus and he earnt himself a "shout out" A brilliant morning had by all. Next week the Under 8s have a very busy weekend. Twickenham on Saturday and Grove on Sunday.
